Madras HC rejects OPS plea against AIADMK general council resolutions; Edappadi is now party general secretary

The supporters of Edappadi busted crackers and distributed sweets. According to PTI, AIADMK advocate S Inbadurai said the court rejected all petitions, including those against the conduct of the party’s general secretary election.

“Panneerselvam (and others) filed a plea against the July 11, 2022 resolutions. It has been rejected. This means the general council is valid, its resolutions are valid,” PTI quoted Inbadurai as saying to reporters.

Following the High Court verdict, Edappadi alongside other leaders of the party reached the headquarters in Chennai to pay their tributes to the statues of their party leaders MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday. Amidst the enthusiastic cheering of cadres, Edappadi was announced the general secretary of AIADMK by party’s election commissioners.

The Salem strongman was later greeted by party cadres with shawls and bouquets.

Addressing the reporters, EPS said he wholeheartedly thanked all the party cadres, functionaries for appointing him as the general secretary of the party.

In a release, addressing him as the party’s general secretary, Edappadi also initiated the membership drive to further strengthen the party. The existing members can renew their membership and new members can get their membership card from April 5 at the party headquarters.

Meanwhile, the Panneerselvam camp has indicated that it will appeal against the single-judge verdict before a division bench.
