A cybercrime police station team of Panchkula police has arrested two accused of duping people on the pretext of forex trading.
According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Panchkula, had approached the police alleging that on July 17, he was lured into opening an account for forex trading. Subsequently, he received a WhatsApp link, which redirected him to a website where communication with the fraudster began through a chatbox. In the process, the complainant was defrauded of a total of Rs 5.90 lakh in multiple transactions. On September 7, a case was registered under relevant sections at the cybercrime police station.
During the investigation, the team arrested Nitesh Kumar and his associate Aditya, both residents of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on September 11. Nitesh was produced in court on September 12 and remanded in judicial custody, while Aditya was taken on three-day police remand for interrogation. After the remand period ended, he too was sent to judicial custody on Monday.
According to DCP (Crime) Manpreet Singh Sudan, interrogation of Aditya revealed the involvement of more individuals in the fraud network. Police teams are conducting raids to trace and arrest the remaining accused.
