Stop recommending patients to private laboratories: PGI

In case any particular test is not performed at the institute, the issue in respect thereof may be taken up with the concerned clinical head of the department.

The issue of recommending patients to private laboratories by PGI doctors has once again come to the fore. The UT Administration has once again issued strict instructions to doctors of various departments and has warned them of disciplinary action.

The matter was last placed before the 27th meeting of the hospital management board held in February 2013 and again during the 30th meeting in September 2014. In those meeting, it was clearly advised to the staff not to indulge in the malpractices.

“However, the issue refuses to die down and raises its ugly head in the institute every now and then. Repeated incidents of recommending patients to get pathological/radiological tests done from private laboratories are affecting the reputation of the institute. Therefore, there is an urgent need to curb the menace”, reads the circular issued by PGI administration on March 19.

It instructs that no routine pathological/radiological investigation for which facility is available in the institute be got done from a private agency. In case any particular test is not performed at the institute, the issue in respect thereof may be taken up with the concerned clinical head of the department.
