Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla Monday convened a comprehensive review meeting with senior officers of the Municipal Corporation and representatives of the Safai Mitra union to address the welfare and essential needs of sanitation workers. The meeting was attended by Dr Inderdeep Kaur, Medical Officer of Health, along with other key MC officials.
During the discussions, Mayor Babla reviewed several important issues raised by the Safai Mitras, including the timely provision of gud (jaggery), tel (oil), saboon (soap), and regular salary disbursement. She expressed concern over delays in the distribution of these essential items and emphasised that the well-being of sanitation workers remains a top priority for the administration.
Mayor Babla issued directions to the officials concerned to ensure immediate action and smooth supply of all welfare provisions. She reiterated that the MC is committed to creating a supportive and dignified work environment for all Safai Mitras, acknowledging their crucial contribution to keeping Chandigarh clean and beautiful.
“The Safai Mitras are the backbone of our city’s sanitation system. Their hard work deserves recognition, respect, and proper facilities,” the mayor stated.
Mayor Babla assured that the MC will continue strengthening welfare measures and implement long-term initiatives aimed at improving working conditions and ensuring the health, safety, and dignity of all sanitation workers.
