The three alleged militants were wanted by the Punjab police after they fled to Malaysia. Two of them had fled India in 2003 and one last year.

Punjab police claim of nabbing from Chennai airport turns out to be false

Punjab police’s claim that it arrested three militants belonging to Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) from Chennai airport about a week ago has fallen flat with the revelation that these militants were arrested by the Malaysian police under the Internal Security Act (ISA) and then deported to India.

The three alleged militants were wanted by the Punjab police after they fled to Malaysia. Two of them had fled India in 2003 and one last year. They were arrested by Bukit Aman under the ISA two weeks ago and deported to India.

While 28-year-old Amarjit Singh, wanted by the Mohali police in connection with Rashtirya Sikh Sangat Chief Rudla Singh’s murder, was running a restaurant in Kuala Lampur; 37-year-old Daljit Singh, who was wanted by the Jagroan police in 2008 RDX case,is a mechanical engineer from Mumbai and was also working in Kuala Lumpur as a music teacher.

The third militant,39-year-old Kawal Singh Soundh, was living in Selangor and was a building contractor and was wanted by the Amritsar police in connection with recovery of arms and ammunition.

They were detained on August 4 on suspicion of being members of Babbar Khalsa International but later it was confirmed that they were operatives of the organisation. They used to extend logistics support to senior operatives of KLF sitting in Malaysia.

These militants were extradited and handed over to the Indian authorities last Tuesday.

Punjab police officials said last year that at least four militants from Babbar Khalsa and KLF were staying in Kuala Lumpur after escaping from India.

A spokesman of the Punjab police last week claimed that acting on reliable information,a special team of state police was successful in arresting them at Chennai airport. Their involvement in criminal and militant activities was being investigated by the state police.

Sources said during interrogation these three admitted that they were told by their handlers they will be settled in the UK or Canada,so they were operating for KLF.

They used to act as facilitators for the terror organisation and provide logistic support in terms of providing financial support as money, which used to come either from Pakistan or Germany, was given to modules and sympathisers in India. The money was also used to help in procuring weapons and other material for the group.

It also came to light that after killing Rulda Singh, one of the suspected militants fled to Pakistan on Amarjit Singh’s passport.

Daljit Singh’s family is well to do and has dealerships of cars in Mumbai. He is also well-versed with gatka and organised some gatka tournaments in Hyderabad,Thane and Nander Sahib.

Amarjit, a tabla player, and Kawal went to Malasiya in 2003,while Daljit went last year, said police sources said.
