A 64-year-old chairman of a private school was murdered by his nephew in his residential quarter in Solan district on Wednesday, said police, suspecting a property dispute behind the crime.
Police identified the victim as Jetinder Singh, chairman of KTS Public School on the Rajgarh-Sultanpur road in Solan.
Police said the victim’s nephew Rinku was arrested in Punjab’s Ropar in this connection.
“Rinku killed his uncle Wednesday morning after locking a woman staying with his uncle inside a room in his residential quarter near the school. The woman raised an alarm after the assailant fled,” police said.
Solan Superintendent of Police (SP) Gaurav Singh told The Indian Express, “Rinku is the son of victim Jetinder Singh’s sister. An iron rod was used in the crime. The assailant hit the victim repeatedly with the rod inflicting severe injuries. Our team nabbed Rinku in Punjab’s Ropar. He is being questioned.”
Sources said the assailant fled the scene in his vehicle and was nabbed in Ropar.
Meanwhile, a forensic team visited the scene and collected samples.
The body was shifted to a local government hospital for the postmortem examination, and a murder case was registered at the Sadar police station in Solan, police said.
In August 2018, Shiwalik Science School managing director Bhagat Singh Saini and his wife were found murdered in their home near Baddi in Solan district. Later, police arrested five people in connection with the double murder.
