Seven sanitation workers died and four others were injured after being hit by a pick-up truck traveling from Delhi to Alwar near Ibrahimbas village on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway under Ferozepur Jhirka police station in Nuh district Saturday morning, police said.
The accident took place around 10 am Saturday when 11 sanitation workers were cleaning the expressway, officials of the Sadar Ferozepur Jhirka Police Station said.
The deceased were identified as Resham (60), Prem (60), Ratna (40), Pista (30), Jedei (40), and Satnavati (30) — all women hailing from Khedlikala village in Pinangwan — and Aas Mohammad (45), a resident of Jhimrawat village. Three of the injured workers — Lajjavati (41), Hemlata (37), and Jagvati — were referred to a hospital in Delhi from Nalhar Medical College in Nuh. Anita, 32, a resident of Rigad village, was admitted to Nalhar Medical College.
Ferozepur Jhirka Station House Officer Aman Singh said an FIR was lodged against the driver. Police said the driver, Monu, a resident of Mohammadpur village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh, was arrested. The police have invoked BNS provisions related to death by negligence and rash driving. Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar visited the accident site.
