Hospital wards flooded, patients bear the brunt

Waterlogging continued to be a problem for the second day in succession on Thursday in the city hospitals as thousands thronged the OPDs and wards amidst the heavy downpour. The ground floor of the Nehru Hospital at PGI was the worst hit along with the paediatric wing.

As the hospital administration had recently spent lakhs of rupees on

revamping the operation theatres, the schedule of surgeries remained unaffected.

Meanwhile, the parking lots and vacant grounds had turned mini pools of water. “The ground floors are the worst affected due to the incessant rains,” said a hospital employee.

The attendants of patients were also a harassed lot as they otherwise make temporary stay arrangements in the open at the hospital.

“I sleep in the lawns as I don’t have any accommodation in the city. But due to the rains,I had to hunt for a makeshift arrangement at the sarai,” said Ram Gopal,an attendant with a patient admitted at the general ward.

GMSH-16 too shared the woes as water entered the low-lying areas. The ongoing construction work and lack of parking space added to the plight of visitors.
