The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP),Punjab to conduct a probe into the allegations of misuse of official position leveled against Indian Police Service officer Rakesh Aggarwal,presently posted as senior superintendent of police (SSP),Hoshiarpur. The directions have been passed by Justice Surya Kant of the High Court on a petition filed by Jalandhar resident Surinder Mittal against the IPS officer. Mittal is also a former member of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum,Jalandhar.
The DGP has been directed to give a personal hearing to Surinder Mittal and submit the report within two months. As Aggarwal was earlier exonerated in a departmental probe,the High Court has ruled that the said probe shall not influence the fresh investigation to be carried out by the DGP.
Aggarwal,who was then posted as SSP Kapurthala,had allegedly got a false case of dowry harassment registered against Surinder Mittal on September 9,2008 to settle personal scores.
