A Class 2 student of a private school in Haryana’s Panipat district was allegedly hung upside down from a window and beaten up by the school’s driver at the behest of the principal.

The police filed an FIR and arrested the school’s principal, Reena, and the driver, Ajay, based on the complaint of the seven-year-old boy’s mother, a resident of Mukhija Colony.

The incident occurred on August 22, when the boy, who was recently enrolled in the school, was allegedly reprimanded by the principal for not completing his homework. The principal then called the driver to dish out the punishment to the boy, said the police.

The driver allegedly scolded the boy and hung him upside down from the classroom window. He also recorded videos of the torture inflicted on the child and uploaded them online, said the police.

In the video, the child is seen hanging upside down inside the classroom with his feet tied to the window’s grill. Ajay is also seen slapping the child in front of his classmates.

The clip, which went viral on social media platforms, also reached the child’s family, who subsequently filed a complaint with the police.

According to the police, Principal Reena confessed to torturing two other students as well, and videos of these incidents were recovered.

“A case was registered against Reena and Ajay. Both were arrested and produced in a court. They have been sent on police remand for further questioning,” said Bhupinder Singh, Superintendent of Police, Panipat.

The Haryana Human Rights Commission, led by Justice (Retd) Lalit Batra, also took cognisance of the incident and summoned top district administration and education department officials for detailed reports about the incident.

Panipat Deputy Commissioner Virender Dahiya directed education department officials to counsel all students.
