After the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research administration ordered to stop the salary of the newly appointed nurses, few of them have reportedly started working according to 8-hour schedule.
The nurses who are on probation had changed their working hours last month without the approval of the PGI administration. Following which the PGI had stopped the salary of 575 newly appointed nurses earlier this week.
Sources in the PGI administration on Friday told The Chandigarh Newsline that few of the nurses have reported to the eight-hour schedule.
“We do not know the total number of nurses who have joined back their duties. However, we are getting reports that few of them have reported to the eight-hour duty schedule,” said a senior official.
The nurses were asked to report to their original working hours, as mentioned in the appointment letters, within 48 hours. “Those who have started joining work know that there would be repercussions, if they go against the rules. The PGI has already decided that it will take strict action against the nurses for violating the rules,” said another official.
However, Lakvinder Singh from PGI’s Nursing Welfare Association said no nurses have joined back to the eight-hour shift.
PGI’s officiating spokesperson Dr Ashok Kumar said they are yet to get any information on the issue. On asking if the PGI would release the salary of those nurses who have joined the eight-hour shift, Kumar said action will be taken after collecting the information according to the government provisions.
