The northern and southern parts of the city would be connected by an express road as soon as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) finalises the construction of a north-south road corridor.

The northern and southern parts of the city would be connected by an express road as soon as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) finalises the construction of a north-south road corridor. The civic body plans to spend Rs 51.85 crore to widen and resurface a road that connects Chaani in north and Makarpura in south.

The road department of VMC had forwarded a proposal to the standing committee of the civic body for its approval for the project. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months, excluding monsoon, once the orders are issued.

The 15 km stretch starts from the toll plaza near Nava Yard in Chhani and goes through Nizampura,Fatehgunj,Kalaghoda,Maharani Shantadevi Hospital,Lalbuag railway overbridge and ends at Jambua in Makarpura.

“The roads connecting the two parts of the city has not been resurfaced for at least 10 years and many of its stretches are in a bad shape,so we decided to develop it,” said Dhiren Talpada, executive engineer of road department on Friday.
