Two tribal men were allegedly tied to a tree and beaten up by a group of men for reportedly eloping with two sisters from Tadva village of Panchmahal district’s Sehra taluka, said police on Friday, adding 10 people, all tribals, have been arrested in connection with the case.
“The two men and the sisters had eloped but the accused tracked them down to Memadavad in Kheda district, from where they were abducted and brought back to Tadva. While the women were not assaulted, the two men were tied to a tree and thrashed by the family members of the women,” said Solanki.
Solanki added that two brothers of the women along with the husband of one of them are prime accused in the case.
“We had started verifying the video as soon as it became public. Late on Thursday night, all 10 accused were apprehended… The victims have suffered minor injuries,” Solanki said. The police have identified the victims as Raiji Puna Nayak and Pintu Bhala Nayak, both residents of Mithapur village, while the accused have been identified as Arjun Gora Nayak, Ishwar Nayak, Mahesh Nayak, Rakesh Nayak, Lala Nayak, Deva Nayak, Nana Nayak, Naresh Nayak, Raman Nayak and Rajesh Nayak.
All accused have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections for wrongful confinement [127 (2)], abduction [137(2)], intentionally joining unlawful assembly [189(2)], member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence in prosecution of common object (190), rioting armed with deadly weapons [191(3)], causing voluntary hurt [115(2)], intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (352), criminal intimidation (351).
