Three men upload ‘suicide pact’ reel on Instagram, found dead in Kalol lake

The bodies were retrieved by divers called by the relative of one of the deceased men in the wee hours of Sunday.
The Instagram reel of the alleged suicide pact was uploaded around 7 pm Saturday (September 27).

Officials of Kalol Taluka police station told The Indian Express that the police had called in the Fire Department for help, but firefighters allegedly said they wouldn’t work at night. However, one of the relatives of the deceased, a retired Deputy Mamlatdar, called in some drivers who managed to bring out the bodies from the lake around 2 am on Sunday. Police said the men were found holding their hands. After the inquest, police sent the bodies for postmortem.

The bodies were handed over to the relatives around 8 am Sunday. The police filed an Accidental Death (AD) report at Kalol Taluka police station.

In the Instagram reel uploaded by the men before their death, one of them is heard saying that he was dying for his lover. The man added that he doesn’t want to reveal his lover’s name and that he was taking the final step with two of his friends, police said.

Police said one of the three men was arrested in a POCSO case in 2023 and granted bail later. The case is underway in a Kalol court. Police said they are also investigating whether the 2023 case has anything to do with the “suicide pact”.
