Navsari witnessed massive disruptions to normal life amid flooding at homes, schools, and markets following heavy showers. The district was one of the worst hit in the state due to cloudbursts on Saturday. An 18-year-old died due to the cloudburst incident.

As concerns rose over the safety of students, District Education Officer directed schools to ask parents to take back school children to their homes.

“There are over 210 schools in the district. After witnessing a heavy downpour, we started contacting each and every school and told them to contact the parents of students. Apart from this, school buses and vans were also called to take students home,” Navsari District Education Officer Jayshree Tandel told The Indian Express.

“Rainwater entered eight schools in town, and the students were safely shifted to the upper floors. Teachers also dropped the students whose parents could not turn up. Apart from this, school authorities also called parents of students to double-check whether their children had reached home safely,” Tandel added.

Stuck on roads in waterlogged areas, morning commuters reached late to their destinations. In low-lying areas, houses were flooded. People were busy shifting their valuable items from one place to the homes of their family members. Several vegetable markets in the town also witnessed flooding.
Navsari District Collector Amit Prakash Yadav said, “I have been the Navsari collector for the last three years and for the first time I have seen such heavy rainfall. It started in the morning and continued till the afternoon. There were places where waterlogging incidents had taken place but later the water receded. The death of a youth due to drowning has been reported in Navsari town. Normal traffic was also affected as rainwater entered National Highway-48. We temporarily shifted around 30 people from low-lying areas in the town to safer places in the morning. We also placed dewatering pumps in different parts. The water totally receded in the majority of the areas in the town in the evening.”
