A swarm of honeybees attacked a 62-year-old woman working in her agricultural fields in Gujarat’s Vansda taluka of Navsari district on Sunday. Doctors removed around 200 thorns of stings from her body.

Honeybees attacked the woman, Shantaben Venji Kunbi, a resident of Patel Street in Rupvel village in Vansda taluka, when she was cutting bushes on her agricultural fields on the outskirts of the village.   She shouted for help, ran around 200 metres away and reached a nearby field. Labourers there helped her remove honeybees from her body and covered her with a cloth.

The village sarpanch and others took her to a private hospital in nearby Pratapgarh village, where a team of doctors removed the stings from her body.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Shree Hospital’s Dr Lochan Shashtri said, “The condition of Shantaben is stable now, but she is still under treatment. We have removed the thorns from her body. She had incurred a sting injury on every part of her body, including her head.”

Shashtri said that if timely treatment is not given after honeybee attack, the affected person may die.

“Her body was swollen due to the stings. This is the fifth incident of the year in which a person has come to us for treatment of stings from Rupvel village. There are many beehives on the trees on the outskirts of the fields.”
