The Bhavnagar Police on Monday arrested an Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) for allegedly murdering his wife and two minor children, and allegedly burying them just outside the forest officer’s quarters.
Bhavnagar SP Nitesh Pandey, in a press conference on Monday morning, confirmed the arrest of ACF Sailesh Bachu Khambhla in the case of the murders of his wife Nayana (42), 13-year-old daughter and nine-year-old son, from their home in Surat.
SP Pandey said, “The accused had confessed to having killed his wife first, then son and then daughter by putting a pillow over their faces on November 5. He then put stones on the bodies and put them in six-feet holes filled with water. He also put a door and a blanket over them and then had the holes filled over with sand.”
The FIR in this case was filed at Bharatnagar police station on November 16, on the basis of a complaint by ASI Hiren Balu Sodhatar on behalf of the State. Khambhla, who is 39 years old, was booked under BNS sections for murder, causing disappearance of evidence, and making false statements to a public servant.
The investigation into this case had begun with Khambhla himself filing a missing persons report about his family.
At 6 pm on November 7, the police station officer (PSO) of Bharatnagar filed a missing persons report on the basis of the complaint. Khambhla had stated that his family were living in Surat and had come to visit him in Bhavnagar during Diwali. The missing persons report alleged that Khambhla had gone for a field visit on November 5 and when he returned at 2 pm the same day, all three were “missing”.
