GSFDC doing brisk business as more people opt for Ayurvedic medicines

The Gujarat State Forest Development Corporation (GSFDC) is gaining net profits as more and more people are opting for Ayurvedic medicines to prevent H1N1 virus.

The Gujarat State Forest Development Corporation (GSFDC) is gaining net profits as more and more people are opting for Ayurvedic medicines to prevent H1N1 virus.

Sources said in the past fortnight,there is 15 per cent rise in the sale of the Ayurvedic medicine known as Giloi. This medicine plays an important role in improving immunity of humans. It also has a mention in scriptures such as Ramayana.

GSFDC Managing Director H S Singh told Newsline,“We have more than 400 agents who distribute Ayurvedic medicines in Gujarat. Most of them have taken the stock of medicine such as Giloi (Tinospora cordifolia). It is commonly known as Galu in Gujarati and Amruta in Kannad. We have increased our production by

almost four times seeing the rising demand.”

Meanwhile,GSFDC General Manager R D Kamboj said: “Giloi is a common constituent of almost all Ayurvedic medicine,such as Gokhru Churna,Rasayana Churna and Sudarshana Churna. We also have raw Giloi. Now with rising panic of swine flu,the medicine flying off the shelves of medical stores. Now,customers are also rushing to GSFDC outlets in Vadodara,Ahmedabad,Jungadh,Jamnangar,Gandhinagar and Ambaji. We are also conducting health camps with help

of doctors.”

“We are going to launch mobile vans for promotion of Giloi. Giloi is an important ingredient of most medicines and is abundantly available in Gujarat. We are going to improve awareness campaign of this medicinal plant specie,which improves the immunity in all age groups,” added Singh.
