Hours after arresting them, the Vadodara city police on Friday produced two more accused before a local court in the case of eggs being allegedly hurled at a Ganesh procession in the old city area of Vadodara earlier this week.
Identified as Junaid Hanif Malik alias Mota Magar and Javid Hanif Malik alias Nano Magar — both residents of Khangah mohalla — the accused allegedly “pre-planned the criminal conspiracy”, the Vadodara City Police station said on Friday. According to the police, the two accused had instructed the two men and a minor apprehended for the crime earlier, to execute a “premeditated conspiracy” to disturb the peace of the city.
Both the accused were brought to the Vadodara court on Friday evening, following their arrest late on Thursday night. The city police station said that both human intelligence inputs and technical surveillance had led the police to the accused, who had been in touch with the duo held earlier in the case.
With this, the total arrests in the case have gone up to four.
Two arrested men — Sufiyan Mansuri and Shahnawaz Qureshi – who were granted three days in police custody, along with a minor accomplice, had allegedly hurled five eggs at the Ganesh procession being undertaken by the Nirmal Park Yuvak Mandal of Manjalpur on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday to bring home the idol of Lord Ganesh. On the way, near the City police station, eggs were allegedly hurled from the third floor of a building. The organisers had immediately approached the city police station, leading to an FIR.
