One of the lanes of the old Shastri Bridge, connecting Pirana Circle to Vishala Circle, in Ahmedabad will be closed for traffic for 10 days (September 1 to 10) during which a detailed structural inspection of the bridge will be carried out.
According to a statement issued by N N Chaudhary, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), the left-side of the bridge heading from Pirana towards Vishala Circle will be closed from September 1 to September 10 between 11 am and 5 pm. During the period, the Executive Engineer of the National Highway Division will conduct a structural inspection of the bridge.
During the 10-day inspection period, all traffic heading from Pirana Circle to Vishala Circle will be diverted to the adjacent parallel bridge which is normally used by traffic from Vishala to Pirana Circle.
All heavy and medium-sized goods and passenger vehicles had already been banned on the lane through a notification issued on August 8, 2025. The ban, which was implemented owing to its deteriorating condition of bearings and pedestals on the old bridge, will continue till February 8, 2026, the statement said.
