Senior BJP leader and a former Union Minister of Law and Justice, Communications, and Electronics and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad has held key positions under the Modi government's two terms.
Within the BJP, Prasad has held several positions including the president of the Bihar unit of the BJP. In 1998, Prasad was elected to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament. He served in the Rajya Sabha for two terms.
In 2014, Prasad was appointed as the Minister of Communications and Electronics and Information Technology in the Government of India. He served in this position until 2019. In 2019, Prasad was re-appointed as the Minister of Law and Justice in the Second Modi Ministry. In 2024, Prasad once again retained his seat by winning the election with a comfortable margin of over 1.5 lakh votes.
Ravi Shankar Prasad was born in Patna, Bihar on August 30, 1954. He studied law at Patna University and graduated in 1977. He became a student leader under the leadership of Jayaprakash Narayan.
In 2001, he was appointed as the spokesperson of the BJP and quickly gained recognition for his articulate and persuasive speeches. In 2002, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Coal and Mines in the government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He was later elevated to the position of Minister of State for Law and Justice and Electronics and Information Technology.
