Rameswar Teli biography

Rameswar Teli is a political leader from Assam and a member of the Bhartiya Janata Party. He is a former Member of Parliament from Assam’s Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency. He was born on August 14, 1970, in Duliajan, Assam. His mother is Dulka Teli, and his father is Budhu Teli. He is a member of the Assamese tea garden community. He used to sell yam and fern when he was a teenager in order to pay for his bread and snacks.

He was a member of the All Assam Tea Tribe Students' Association (AATTSA), which is where his political roots lie. Tea garden workers represent a significant portion of Assam's socioeconomic population, and this organization fights for their rights. The basis for his political ambitions was established by his leadership within AATTSA.

He started politics in 2001 when he was elected to represent the BJP in the Assam Legislative Assembly for Duliajan. Up to 2011, he held two terms in a row. After a short electoral break, he made a comeback to politics in 2014 when he was elected to the Lok Sabha to represent the Dibrugarh constituency.

In later elections, he successfully defended his parliamentary seat again in 2019, indicating the strength of his support base in Assam. However, in 2024, he was dropped from the Lok Sabha candidates list, along with 4 other sitting MPs from his state.
