After much celebration, controversy, noise and fears, Rio 2016 Olympics are poised to finally come to life with the opening ceremony. At a Summer Olympic Games, the opening ceremony makes for the spectacle to come in terms of preparation, razzmatazz and officially declaring the games ‘open’. At each opening ceremony, one gets to see a glimpse of the host city or nation while maintaining tradition of the Olympics. But the artistic independence allows the hosts to add a flavour of the home nation. This results in added expenses and complexity.
Mierelles explained he’s glad that insane amounts are not being spent on the opening ceremony. “(I would be) ashamed to waste what London spent in a country where we need sanitation, where education needs money. So I’m very glad we’re not spending money like crazy. I’m happy to work with this low budget because it makes sense for Brazil,” he stated.
Indian interest, at the ceremony, will be around 6:07 am (IST) when Abhinav Bindra, the flag bearer, is expected to lead the contingent out.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 5, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. The ceremony will take place at the iconic and historic Maracana Stadium in Rio. The stadium has been used in the past for football finals including the 1950 World Cup final, 2013 Confederations Cup final and 2014 World Cup final. The venue can hold more than 75,000 people.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 8 PM Brazil time on August 5. And India is eight and a half hours ahead of Brazil which makes it 04.30 AM IST (morning of August 6 or Saturday) or 2300 GMT on August 5. The ceremony is expected to last four hours.
The broadcast rights for Rio Olympics is held by Star Sports in the Indian sub-continent. The network has dedicated its eight channels (SD and HD) to coverage of the mega event.

Shooter Abhinav Bindra who is participating in his fourth Olympics will be carrying the Indian flag and lead a strong contingent forward in the parade of nations.
India are sending their largest contingent at the Rio Olympics with highest numbers in the likes of badminton and shooting. The total number for the contingent stands at 119.
There is no definite answer to this just yet. At the London Olympics, the women in the contingent wore yellow sarees and the same is likely to continue this time around for Rio. The possible outfit, as per rumours, is a saree in crepe or chiffon in the colours of the Indian flag with an achkan-style blouse and orange bindi.
For the men, the designers contemplated a bandghala in ivory with the tricolour across the chest with Jodhpuri bottoms that are comfortable and sporty. Another option for the men is a short fitted jacket in a light shade with green piping on sleeves.
