UNESCO has added the Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve in Himachal Pradesh, India to the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, making it one of 785 sites in 142 countries. The 7,770 sq km reserve is home to a variety of plants and animals, including the snow leopard, and is vital for traditional pastoralism and Tibetan herbal medicine.
