Election officials here said polling was going on smoothly, barring some complaints of EVM malfunctioning, which were attended to immediately to ensure voting was not hampered.
Fourteen seats in Uttar Pradesh, 12 in Rajasthan, seven each in West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh, five in Bihar and four in Jharkhand will go to polls, in addition to Ladakh and Anantnag constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first election in Ladakh division following its split from the Kashmir division earlier this year.

A total of 51 constituencies across seven states are going to polls in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Besides, re-polling will be conducted in five polling booths for three Assembly and five Lok Sabha segments in three districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The Congress has sought re-polling in several booths in Shopian and Pulwama districts of the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, alleging that the NC and the PDP indulged in bogus voting in many areas.
In a statement, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president allege bogus voting in some booths under Pampore and Rajpora Assembly segments.
The matter has been reported to the Returning Officer for immediate necessary action, he said.

Close to 50 per cent polling was recorded in five polling booths in Andhra Pradesh, till 1 p.m Monday, where a re-poll was being conducted.
Braving the heat wave, voters queued up at the five polling booths and cast their votes in good numbers.
In all 49.64per cent votes were polled in the five polling booths in three districts, Election Commission officials here said.

A grenade attack on a polling booth in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, violence in West Bengal and EVM glitches were reported during the fifth phase of Lok Sabha polls Monday across seven states in which voters turned out in considerable numbers till the afternoon.
In Jammu and Kashmir, polling began on a violent note with militants lobbing a grenade towards a polling station in Pulwama district, police said. A grenade was lobbed towards Rohmoo polling station in Pulwama but there were no reports of any casualties in the blast, a police official said.
In West Bengal, a scuffle broke out between Barrackpore seat's BJP candidate Arjun Singh and central forces when the former TMC MLA tried to enter a booth following allegations that voters were not being allowed to exercise their franchise there, officials said. (PTI)

A voter turnout of 42.7 per cent was recorded in Rajasthan's 12 Lok Sabha seats, where polling began at 7 am, in the first six hours on Monday, according to the website of chief electoral officer of Rajasthan.
The maximum voter turnout of 47.45 per cent was recorded in Ganganagar (SC) seat.
Churu, Jaipur, Nagaur, Alwar and Sikar registered a voter turn out of 44.75, 44.47, 43.54, 43.34 and 43.16 per cent, respectively.
Besides these six seats, polling is also underway amid tight security in Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Jaipur rural, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur and Dausa.

An estimated 26.19 per cent of over 87.66 lakh electorate exercised their franchise till noon in five Lok Sabha seats of Bihar on Monday, during the fifth phase of the seven-phase polls, PTI reported.
Of the five Lok Sabha seats, Saran recorded the highest turnout so far at 29 per cent, followed by Muzaffarpur at 26.28 per cent and Madhubani at 25.85 per cent.
Both Sitamarhi and Hajipur constituencies registered 25 per cent voting each till noon.

A scuffle between Barrackpore seat's BJP candidate Arjun Singh and central forces was reported when the former TMC MLA tried to enter a booth following allegations that voters were not being allowed to exercise their franchise there, the official said. Singh who was allegedly injured during the scuffle, was later seen chasing "fake voters" in Naihati area.
"Our agents were not allowed inside booths. People were not allowed to vote properly and I went there to have a look. I have the right to enter booths but police stopped me and hit me," Singh told PTI.
Of the seven constituencies, Arambagh (SC) recorded the maximum of 38.98 per cent of polling while Sreerampore recorded 36.84 per cent till 11 am, followed by Uluberia 36.07 per cent, Barrackpore 30.03 per cent, Hooghly recorded 33.55 per cent, Howrah 31.45 per cent and Bongaon (SC) 31.38 per cent, the official said.
Meanwhile, the BJP has asked for fresh polling in Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat, accusing TMC of resorting to 'violence' to prevent BJP voters cast their votes.
An average 29.76 per cent polling was recorded till noon in seven Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, PTI reported.
Voting figures till noon were as follows: Tikamgarh 28.81 per cent, Damoh- 28.23 per cent, Khajuraho- 29.73 per cent, Satna- 28.25 per cent, Rewa- 28.13 per cent, Hoshangabad- 31.14 per cent and Betul- 33.14 per cent.
Nearly 23 per cent turnout was recorded Monday in the first four hours of polling in 14 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh where Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Congress President Rahul Gandhi are in the fray.
Maximum of 28.41 per cent voting was witnessed in Dhaurahra, while Lucknow recorded 20.98 per cent.
Raebareli and Amethi witnessed 21.28 per cent and 21.83 per cent turnout respectively.

An estimated 29.49 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 11 am in Jharkhand, where the second phase of polling is underway in four Lok Sabha constituencies, PTI reported. Four constituencies - Koderma, Ranchi, Khunti (ST) and Hazaribagh, are undergoing voting today.
Koderma recorded a turnout of 30.80 per cent, followed by Ranchi at 30.05 per cent, Hazaribag at 29.05 per cent and Khunti(ST) at 27.21 per cent.

About 16 per cent of polling was reported overall in the first two hours after the process began, PTI reported.
Accordingly, re-polling is being held in polling booth 94 pertaining to Narsaraopet Assembly and Lok Sabha segments, polling booth 244 of Guntur West Assembly and Lok Sabha segments in Guntur district; 247 of Yerragondapalem Assembly and Ongole Lok Sabha segments.
Repolling is also being held in booth 41 of Kovur Assembly segment under Nellore Lok Sabha constituency and 197 of Sullurupeta Assembly segment under Tirupati parliamentary constituency.

Of the seven constituencies, Uluberia recorded maximum polling at 20.59 per cent till 9 am, followed by Arambagh (SC) 19.19 per cent, Sreerampore 17.41 per cent, Howrah recorded 16.18 per cent, Hooghly 15.73 per cent, Barrackpore 13.99 per cent and Bongaon (SC) 13.68 per cent.
Some stray incidents of violence were reported from Bangaon, Hooghly and Barrackpore seats.

An average 12.54 per cent turnout was recorded in the first three hours of polling in seven Lok Sabha seats of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, PTI reported.
Polling was underway since 7 am in the seven constituencies - Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, Hoshangabad and Betul - where long queues were seen at some booths.
The voting figures till 10 am are as follows: Tikamgarh -10.02 per cent, Damoh-12.79 per cent, Khajuraho-12.45 per cent, Satna-13.24 per cent, Rewa- 12.54 per cent, Hoshangabad-12.74 per cent and Betul-13.92 per cent.

If you have received a message on WhatsApp or seen a post on social media telling you that you must keep the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) button pressed till a slip is generated on the Voter-Verified Paper Audio Trail (VVPAT), it’s FAKE.
In a statement issued on Twitter, the Election Commission said, “Some mischievous elements have posted wrong information on social media that while voting, voters should keep #EVM button pressed till the slip comes out on the #VVPAT. Please see the correct information. #LokSabhaElections2019.”

Militants Monday lobbed a grenade towards a polling station in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir where polling is underway for the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, police told PTI. A grenade was lobbed towards Rohmoo polling station in Pulwama but there were no reports of any casualties in the blast, a police official said.
Security forces have cordoned off the area.
This was the first militant attack on a polling station in this Lok Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir.
