
Major exit polls have suggested a sweeping win by BJP in Himachal Pradesh. With more than 40 seats on BJP’s side, all surveys have come as a setback for current chief minister Virbhadra Singh. While Exit polls on India Today is predicting a sweeping win by BJP in Himachal Pradesh. While BJP has 47 to 55 seats, Congress is predicted to manage 13 to 20 seats. News 24 has also suggested a win for the saffron party. According to its exit polls, BJP will manage to get 55 seats, while, Congress will get 13 seats.
The Congress is currently ruling the hill State and the BJP is eyeing to return to power after a gap of five years. In the outgoing assembly, the Congress and the BJP have 35 and 28 MLAs respectively. There are four Independent MLAs while one seat was vacant. 7.50 pm: The Congress,on the other hand, has taken the exit poll with a pinch of salt.”Exit polls are not exact polls. We will wait till the counting was done as congress is certainly in comfortable position to get the majority. Our campaign was very well organised though lacked in resources unlike that of the BJP which had pumped in money, resources and manpower from all over,”said PCC president Sukhwinder Sukhu. He also added that the results might have shocked BJP too. “They were not expecting this perhaps.”
7.48 pm: Stating that the exit poll results were “much on expected lines ,both in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat,” Dhumal thanked the people of state for their votes. He was also given a rousing welcome by the candidates and party leaders in Bilaspur
7.45 pm: With most exit polls predicting the return of BJP the saffron party is in the mood of celebration in the state. “Himachal Pradesh ki janta ne dil khol ke vote diye .We had set a target of plus 50 -plus and I am confident we will be achieving the goal,or may exceed at end of the day,” said BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal.
7.38 pm: News X polls says BJP has 46 seats, Congress 21 and others has one seat.
7.25 pm: ABP poll also gives BJP a lead. While BJP has 38 seats, Congress has 29 seats and others has 1 seat.
6.41 pm: BJP seems to be on a winning spree as the poll by Times Now also gives it an edge. The poll gives 51 seats to BJP and 17 seats to Congress.
6.00 pm: With 55 seats for BJP and 13 seats in the share of Congress, exit poll by News 24 also suggests a BJP victory.
5.30 pm: The India Today-Axis My India poll suggests BJP taking over Himachal Pradesh. While BJP will have 47 to 55 seats, Congress will manage 13 to 20 seats. Other candidates can get 0-2 seats, the poll suggests.
The final votes will be counted on December 18.
