The Election Commission has announced polls for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly. The single-phase election will be held on November 9 and counting of votes will take place on December 18. In the 68-member state assembly, Congress has 36 seats while BJP won 26 seats in the last elections. With Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh at the helm, Congress will try to retain the state amid BJP's successive victories in other states. The BJP, on the other hand, has still not projected
any leader for the polls in Himachal, though speculation is rife that the choice is between two-time chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Union Health Minister J P Nadda.
