Bhopal is a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), having never lost an election since 1989. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP’s Sadhvi Pragya Thakur won with a substantial margin of 3,64,822 votes, while in 2014, they secured 714,178 votes. The incumbent MP from Bhopal has been denied ticket this time by the BJP.
As the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency is set to hold elections in May 2024, with voting taking place on May 7 (Phase 3) and results announced on June 4, we will witness the electoral contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Alok Sharma and Congress’s Arun Shrivastav vying for the seat.
Former mayor, Alok Sharma, associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been filed to contest from the Bhopal constituency, replacing the sitting MP Pragya Thakur, as she was denied a ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Thakur admitted that certain remarks she made in the past may have displeased Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leading to her exclusion from the party’s first list of candidates.
District President of Congress, Arun Srivastava has been fielded to contest from Congress, for the Bhopal constituency in Madhya Pradesh, in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
