UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said that he would ensure through his work that the United States and Europe remain together and shouldn’t allow divisions to distract them from the threats “external enemies” pose, the BBC reported.
According to reports, senior officials from the Trump administration are expected to initiate truce and peace talks with Russian and Ukrainian counterparts in Saudi Arabia in the days to follow.
“This is a once in a generation moment for our national security where we engage with the reality of the world today and the threat we face from Russia,” UK PM Starmer said, reported Reuters quoting BBC.
Britain’s prime minister further added, “It’s clear Europe must take on a greater role in NATO as we work with the US to secure Ukraine’s future and face down the threat we face from Russia.”
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron led France is deliberating with its allies on organising an informal summit of European leaders regarding the Ukraine peace talks, and four European diplomats suggested that the said meeting might start on Monday itself, Reuters reported.
Starmer further stated that Britain would “work to ensure we keep the U.S. and Europe together”, adding the two could not “allow any divisions in the alliance to distract” from “external enemies.
UK PM Starmer, who is poised to visit Washington DC and meet US President Trump, would discuss the views of European leaders as he wants Ukraine at the centre of ceasefire talks.
