Britain’s former prince Andrew will be stripped of his final military title as part of King Charles’ decision to remove him from public duties, Defence Minister John Healey said on Sunday.

Healey told BBC television that steps were being taken to withdraw Andrew’s honorary role as a vice admiral in the Royal Navy, in line with the King’s wishes.

“This is a move that’s right, it’s a move the King has indicated we should take and we’re working on that at the moment,” Healey said, according to Reuters.

The decision follows King Charles’ move last week to remove his younger brother’s title of prince and evict him from his royal residence. The measures are aimed at further distancing the royal family from Andrew’s past links to the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Andrew retained his vice admiral rank in 2022 when he gave up his other military roles.
