The UK is set to experience a significant drop in temperatures this week as an “Arctic blast” is expected to hit, following a weekend of heavy rain.
After a stretch of milder days with highs around 20°C, temperatures in London are forecast to drop to around 15°C from Wednesday to Friday, according to BBC Weather.
The chilly weather, along with more rain, is predicted to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the cold air coming directly from the Arctic.
Met Office forecaster Craig Snell said, “Our first autumn chill of the season is coming into the middle part of the week, bringing daytime temperatures to the mid-teens, while nighttime lows could fall to single digits.”
Over the weekend, the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for much of the country, with thunderstorms waking up many Londoners on Sunday morning. The bad weather also caused the cancellation of several British Airways flights at Gatwick Airport.
In a statement, the Met Office warned that more thunderstorms could develop in the southeast, with the yellow warning in place until 6 p.m. on Sunday. There’s also the potential for more warnings if conditions worsen.
Looking ahead, the Met Office predicts “fresher, cooler temperatures” across the UK, especially in the north by mid-week. The forecast remains unsettled, with showers, longer spells of rain, and blustery winds expected throughout the week.
