India’s Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar spent a day meeting top dignitaries and high level politicians in Nepal that is all set to promulgate the new constitution on Sunday amidst threat of the boycott by Madhes centric parties, Tharu community leaders and indigenous hill groups.

As a part of his “stock-taking” visit as the special envoy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaishankar separately met President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala , chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist and some Madhes-centric leaders conveying India’s concern over the unrest along its border in Tarai.

His visit, barely 48 hours before the scheduled delivery of the Constitution, follows what appears like Nepal’s cold-shouldering India’s suggestion to put off voting and adoption of the Constitution in hurry, and instead try to reach out to the groups “agitating” against the demarcation of provinces by the major three parties.
