Kamala Harris has said she is not done with politics yet and may run again for the post of US President, the BBC reported.
The BBC reported that Harris in an interview, to be aired on Sunday, with Laura Kuenssberg said she could “possibly” become the next president, suggesting she may seek the Democratic nomination in 2028.
“I am not done,” Harris told the BBC. “I have lived my entire career as a life of service and it’s in my bones,” she added.
Harris also said no final decision has been made but added she believes a woman will eventually become president of the United States.
Harris said she was not worried about polls that currently place her behind other potential Democratic candidates, including actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
“If I listened to polls I would have not run for my first office, or my second office – and I certainly wouldn’t be sitting here,” she told the BBC.
Harris said her warnings during the 2024 campaign about US president Donald Trump’s behaviour had been proved right.
She called him a “tyrant” with “thin skin” and accused him of using the justice system against opponents. Harris pointed to the suspension of TV host Jimmy Kimmel after he joked about Republican reactions to the death of activist Charlie Kirk.
“He said he would weaponise the Department of Justice and he has done exactly that … His skin is so thin he couldn’t endure criticism from a joke, and attempted to shut down an entire media organisation in the process,” she said, according to the BBC.
Harris also criticised business leaders in the US, saying some had “capitulated” to power to protect their interests.
A White House spokesperson responded to BBC interview by saying: “When Kamala Harris lost the election in a landslide, she should’ve taken the hint – the American people don’t care about her absurd lies.”
Harris is promoting her book 107 Days, which tells the story of her short 2024 campaign. She became the Democratic candidate only after Joe Biden stepped aside due to concerns about his health.
She says the short campaign hurt her chances of winning. She and the Democratic Party have also faced questions about their approach to Israel’s war in Gaza, which the UN has described as “genocidal”, and how that affected voters.
