Former US president Jimmy Carter’s goal: To vote for Kamala Harris

Former US President Jimmy Carter, approaching his 100th birthday and currently under hospice care, has a single priority: to vote against Donald Trump and for Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.

“Casting my vote for Kamala Harris is my top priority,” Carter told his son Chip, a sentiment shared by his grandson Jason Carter with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Guardian reported that Carter’s transition to hospice care on February 18, 2023, marked a significant shift in his health, leading many to believe his time was drawing near.

President Joe Biden revealed that he had been asked to deliver Jimmy Carter’s eulogy, but unexpectedly, Carter’s medical team discovered a way to extend his life beyond initial expectations. Biden noted that Carter’s doctors had “found a way to keep him going for a lot longer than they anticipated because they found a breakthrough.”

In October 2023. when Carter celebrated his 99th birthday, the former Democratic National Committee chairperson Donna Brazile praised him, saying, “He’s as sturdy as a southern oak, and his commitment to human rights and mental health reform is unwavering.” Tragically, his wife Rosalynn passed away just a month later at 96.

The 2002 Nobel Peace Prize recognised Jimmy Carter’s exceptional efforts in advancing peace, democracy, and human rights globally. In a 2021 interview, Carter affectionately credited his long life to his marriage to Rosalynn, stating she was “the right person for him.”

Carter’s grandson Jason reported that he has been more alert and involved in political matters recently, including the situation in Gaza.

Regarding his goals, Carter expressed his desire to vote for Kamala Harris, highlighting his ongoing commitment to civic participation, and hinted at aiming to reach 100 years old. Early voting in Georgia is set to begin on October 15, just two weeks after his centennial birthday.
