Democratic candidate Kamala Harris has selected Minnesota governor Tim Walz as the running mate for the upcoming US Presidential elections in November.
Governor Tim Walz, 60, was born in Nebraska. He became a teacher in China, then moved to Nebraska and later in Mankato, Minnesota where he taught Geography and was also the coach of a high school football team.
According to The Guardian, Walz also served in the army national guard where he enlisted at the age of 17 and served for 24 years. His role in the army made him go around the country and he was even deployed in Europe.
Walz, who is currently in his second term as the Governor of Minnesota, also chairs the Democratic Governors Association. He has also served in the Congress for 12 years.
It was in 2006 when Walz first ran for the office in a Republican-leaning congressional district and won. He remained in the office until 2018 and defeated Republicans in their own den consecutively.
In 2018, Walz ran for the governor of Minnesota and defeated his opponent. He successfully defended the state in 2022 as well.
It was in Minnesota where Democrats achieved a marvelous victory in both chambers of the legislature and the governorship and Walz led by his colleagues worked on varied issues like abortion protection, gun restriction and legal marijuana, as per The Guardian.
Walz has emerged as one of the first champions of Kamala Harris as when President Joe Biden backed out of the presidential race, it was Walz who first endorsed Harris and since then has emerged as a reliable and an energetic candidate to be the Vice President pic for Harris.
Walz has been critical of Republican candidate Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance over their claims of having middle class credentials.
Walz, in an interview with MSNBC, said “They keep talking about the middle class. A robber baron real estate guy and a venture capitalist trying to tell us they understand who we are? They don’t know who we are.”
