Assam singer Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore, reportedly after he experienced breathing troubles while swimming. He was 52. As his mortal remains returned home and were kept at a sports complex in Guwahati, thousands gathered to pay their last respects, including his four pet dogs.
In a heartwarming video, Garg’s wife, Garima, and others were seen carrying their dogs, Iko, Diya, Rambo, and Maya, into the complex. The pets were brought close to his body, each allowed a final glimpse of the singer.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the moment on X, writing, “It is often said that dogs are a man’s best friend, and if dogs love you, you are a great man.”

The post quickly gained traction, with several fans offering condolences. “Heart touching scene… Rest In Peace Zubeenda. One of his heart touching song : Jaane Kya chahe mann bawra..akhiyan mere saawan chala,” a user wrote. “Dogs are the first to tell owner of ill intension of outsiders, thats why dogs are mans best friends,” another user commented.
In another post, Sarma reflected on Garg’s massive impact and the public outpouring of grief. “A few hours left before #BelovedZubeen begins his final journey. A short while ago, I joined his well-wishers at Sarusajai Stadium to pay my tributes. The last 2 days symbolised the love he commands over people. There will never be another Zubeen,” CM Sarma wrote.
Ahead of the cremation, a second autopsy was conducted on Tuesday morning at Gauhati Medical College Hospital, overseen by its doctors alongside experts from AIIMS-Guwahati. This followed the initial post-mortem carried out in Singapore, which cited drowning as the cause of death.
Zubeen Garg was cremated with full state honours on Tuesday.
