When Indian moms meet AI, hilarity is bound to ensue–and one Redditor’s story is the perfect example. Shared on r/delhi, a now-viral post titled “I taught my mom to use ChatGPT and this happened” gave people a peek into a household moment where artificial intelligence crossed paths with age-old Indian parenting.
The post features a screenshot of a message the user received—classic mom scolding, but with a twist. The text in Hindi reads “Tumne phir se paani ki bottle bhar kar fridge mein nahi rakhi? Kitni baar kaha hai ki jab bhi paani piyo, uske baad bottle bhar kar wapas fridge mein rakho. Itni laparwahi theek nahi hai. Zimmedaari seekho.” Want a softer or stricter version? (You didn’t refill the water bottle and put it back in the fridge again, did you? How many times have I told you–whenever you drink water, refill the bottle and put it back in the fridge. This kind of carelessness isn’t okay. Learn to be responsible.)”
That last sentence, “Want a softer or stricter version,” gave it away. The whole thing was an AI-generated reprimand–scripted by ChatGPT, powered by mom’s new favorite tool, and aimed squarely at her son’s forgetfulness. Classic mom energy, now AI-powered.

Naturally, the Internet couldn’t get enough. Comments flooded in, with one user writing, “Moms after discovering ChatGPT- Technologiya.”
Another user commented, “So cute , wonder what had been the prompt aunty ji used for this msg.” A third person said, “Desi moms discovering chatgpt be like.”
A fourth individual wrote, “Just wait until she diacovers perplexity or grok . She will scold chatgpt and compare it with them.”
It’s just one of many everyday ways Indians are embracing AI. From stern motherly reminders to language translation, ChatGPT is becoming a go-to tool. A now-viral clip recently showed a student in Bengaluru using ChatGPT’s voice assistant to translate Hindi to Kannada while haggling with an auto driver–making sure the fare wasn’t the only thing getting lost in translation.
