Cricketer Virat Kohli is easily one of the most popular celebrities in India. He is often chosen as a muse by various artists. Recently, Shintu Mourya, a popular artist with over 5.4 million subscribers on YouTube, created a shadow art portrait of the former cricket team skipper.
In a now-viral video, Mourya first assembles a stack of matchboxes and thin wooden strips in an inane-looking sculpture. Once the matchboxes and wooden strips are aligned after three days of hard work, he places them in front of a light source. The shadow created by this sculpture is that of a smiling Kohli.
This clip has gathered over 5.5 lakh likes since it was posted on July 20. Many people tagged Virat Kohli in the comments, hoping that the cricketer will check out Mourya’s work.
“@virat.kohli you need to see this and appreciate his amazing talent, creativity at its best .” wrote an Instagram user.
This is not the only Kohli portrait that has gone viral in recent months.
In June, digital creator Shahid (@sahixd) created an AI art series using the prompt-based art tool Midjourney that projected Virat Kohli in multiple avatars. Kohli was seen as a king, an astronaut, a footballer, a guitar player, a doctor, a soldier in an active war zone, a fruit seller, a pilot, and a policeman in Shahid’s artwork, “Virat Kohli across the Multiverse”.
In May, ‘India’s first sunlight artist’ Vignesh carved a stunning portrait of Virat Kohli on a wooden block, using sunlight that he directed with a magnifying glass.
