If you’re a cricket fanatic, you might have witnessed the glorious T20 match between New Zealand and India. Coincidentally, it also marked cricketer Ashish Nehra’s farewell, as the bowler played the last international match of his career. Known for his swiftness on and off the field, Nehra has always been a helping hand for all the young players in the Indian cricket team. Lovingly known as ‘Nehra ji’ by his teammates and fans, his retirement after the match made many onlookers on the field emotional. And it was his performance in his final match that turned out to be an icing on the cake.
While social media was already buzzing with applause for him, an old picture of Nehra and Kohli that surfaced on Twitter made many nostalgic. When the photo was clicked, Nehra was holding an award for Kohli during his school days. Meanwhile, on November 1, it was the latter who presented him with his farewell trophy. The picture tugged at many cricket lover’s heartstrings.
The re-entry of the 2003 picture on the Twitter timeline created a lot of buzz on the micro-blogging site. “That picture has become more popular because of where Virat Kohli is today,” Nehra said during a press conference. “It’s been a great journey,” he added. Kohli too spoke about the picture in a BCCI video. “That was back in 2003 after he had come back from the World Cup. I was 13 then and struggling for a place in the school team,” the Indian skipper said.
