A social media influencer from Uttar Pradesh has sparked a buzz after launching an unusual crowdfunding campaign, asking her followers to donate small amounts to help her buy the newly launched iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Mahi Singh, who refers to herself as the “Beauty Queen of Lakhimpur,” posted a video appeal earlier this month requesting contributions of Re 1 or Rs 2 from her followers to afford the Apple smartphone, which retails at around Rs 1.49 lakh in India.

Explaining the reason behind the campaign, Singh said her father refused to buy her the latest iPhone, especially since he had recently gifted her the previous model. “The 17 Pro has just been launched and I really like its colour. Three months ago, my father bought and gave me the iPhone 16. I now want to get this new phone for my birthday on Oct 21, but my father is not buying it for me,” she said in the video.

She asked for small contributions from her followers to help fulfil her birthday wish. “If you all help with one, two, three, or four rupees each, then I can buy this phone and I will thank you from the bottom of my heart. This will make my dream come true. Honestly, I like this phone so much that I have no words to describe it,” Singh added.

The video quickly gained traction, prompting mixed reactions. “Why is not begging books and any study related things. Don’t give him single Paisa,” a user wrote. “Youtubers become rich through crowd funding but when a poor person does it, it becomes a problem,” another user commented.

“This is her dream, what kind of Generation is this , a dream should be to buy something for the parents from your own money,” a third user said.
