Two UP cops ride bike without helmets, speed up after two women question them on video; challan issued

Days after a photograph showing two Mumbai cops travelling on a scooter without helmets went viral on social media, a video showing two of their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh travelling on a bike at night without helmets has surfaced online. After the video did rounds on social media, Ghaziabad traffic police took cognizance of the incident and issued a challan, imposing a fine of Rs 1,000.

The widely circulated clip shows the two cops travelling at night without helmets and a police siren is heard from their bike. Two women, who recorded the video, also were seen questioning the cops why they were riding without helmets, a traffic offence. However, the cops ignore the women and speed up ahead.

Responding to the clip posted by Twitter user Manoj Sharma, Ghaziabad Traffic police posted a screenshot of the challan. As per Section 194 D of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 RW section 129 of CMVA AND RILE 121 of UP MVR 1998, a fine of Rs 1,000 has been imposed.


Since being shared on Sunday, the clip has amassed more than 31,000 views on Twitter. A user commented, “Wow, police is shivering.”

On April 8, a photograph showing two women police officers travelling on a scooter without helmets surfaced online. Last Wednesday, Mumbai Traffic police shared a photograph of a challan issued in connection with the violation of traffic rules. The police force said in a tweet that suitable action has been initiated against the cops and a fine of Rs 500 each was imposed.
