The official Twitter handle of Rahul Gandhi was hacked on Wednesday evening and abusive tweets directed at Rahul and the Congress party was shared from the verified account. Not only were the tweets profane, hackers also demeaned the Congress vice-president by altering the bio and the name of the handle.
Though the team responsible for managing the account took quick action and deleted the distasteful tweets, the damage was done. Within a few minutes, images of the tweets were widely circulated on social networking sites and, eventually, Twitterati trolled Rahul Gandhi.

While various Congress leaders condemned the act and alleged that only one “political camp” could be behind the cyber attack, people paid little attention. Although the Congress Vice President’s account was hacked only for a few minutes, the tweets had the entire micro-blogging site buzzing. While it was a matter of serious concern, Twitterati could not resist stifling a stray laugh or more. From the password of the account to the general tone of Gandhi’s tweets on better days than these, people had a lot to talk about.
They could not stop taking a jibe at the leader, with many joking about what could be the account’s password and few claiming that it was a wasteful exercise as “even in normal days, he speaks and writes senseless”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and even news anchor Arnab Goswami were dragged into the hacking row, with numerous tweets alleging they could be responsible for the incident.
Since the government decided to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, Gandhi has been a strong critic of the move and even hit out at PM Modi for not speaking on the issue inside the parliament.
