While the Prime Minister has asked Indians to be patient for 50 days, it’s doubtful the situation after the demonetisation of high-value currency notes of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 is going to get better in the near future. As of Day 36, you must have come across hundreds of social media statuses sharing vivid details of the misery people are going through standing in queues for long hours and sometimes even returning empty-handed. In fact, there were videos floating around of people crying, while waiting outside banks and ATMs because they were in dire need of money but had to wait before they could lay heir hands on their cash.
Contrary to that, every now and then, people with lakhs and crores of new currency notes stashed in their offices and houses are reportedly getting caught. Which brings one to think, who’s the ultimate sufferer?
A picture captured by Hindustan Times’ photojournalist Parveen Kumar shows an elderly man crying because he missed his spot in the queue. The photo has touched a chord with many and has gone viral on social media. “Old man cries in Gurgaon after missing his spot in a long queue… and they said only the rich will cry,” wrote a user.
