‘Greatness frozen in time’: Unseen photo of Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Sharmistha Dubey from IIT days breaks the Internet

An unseen photo of Google Chief Executive Officer Sundar Pichai from his IIT Kharagpur convocation day in 1993 has taken the Internet by storm. The viral photo also shows Sharmistha Dubey, former CEO of Match Group, which owns dating apps like OkCupid, Hinge and Tinder.

Ananya Lohani, an X user, shared the photo on the platform revealing her father graduated with Pichai and Dubey. “My dad just shared this picture of his IIT KGP convocation (1993) with him, Sundar Pichai and Sharmistha Dubey in the same frame. This is absolutely insane,” Lohani wrote.

Shared on May 6, the post amassed over 7,70,000 views, triggering a sea of reactions on the platform. Reacting to the unseen photo, a user wrote, “I’m interested to know what profession your father is currently in!!” Another user commented, “That’s a powerful picture. Greatness frozen in time.”

“What does uncle do????? damn IIT in 1993 when people used to have less opportunities. You father was grinding to be best,” a third user said.

Born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Sundar Pichai studied metallurgical engineering at IIT Kharagpur. He also holds an MS from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Sharmistha Dubey, an Indian-American, gained prominence after she was appointed as the CEO of Match Group between 2020-22. She grew up in Jamshedpur and pursued a metallurgy engineering degree at IIT, where she was the only woman student in a class of over a hundred men.
