An odd video of a stray dog’s ‘baby shower’ is raking in likes on social media. The video posted by Instagram user Bharath Chandran (@a.bharath_c) shows an indie dog named Bella getting a ceremonial tika and a flower garland.
While sharing this clip, Chandran wrote, “In a world full of hatred, disgust and disdain for street dogs, here we are celebrating our kid Bella’s Valaikaapu/baby shower! Hoping she will have a safe delivery and we will have healthy and perky little asses to play with. 😌❤️🔥 Puppies will be vaccinated and given for adoption. Pre-booking is open.😇 The one who is stealing food at the back is my boy Rocky, Bella’s BFF❤️😂”.
Even as this video gathered over 58,000 likes, in the comments many people highlighted the importance of spaying and neutering stray dogs. Sterilisation benefits dogs in many ways. Not only does it prevent unwanted litters but also reduces the possibility of illnesses like uterine or ovarian cancer in female dogs and prostate cancer in male dogs. Sterilised dogs are also less aggressive.
Commenting on the video, an Instagram user wrote, “Me waiting to see the pups😭. Also pls get her sterilized next time. 🥺”. Another person wrote, “Please get her neutered if you love her!”.
In response to one of the comments about sterilisation, Chandran wrote that “Bella is an escape artist, so it is very hard to get an opportunity to get her sterilised”. He added that they aim to get Bella spayed following the birth of her puppies.
