A video showing Microsoft founder Bill Gates adding ‘tadka’ (tempering with spices) to ‘Shree Ann Khichdi’ with Union Minister Smriti Irani’s help did rounds on social media recently. Sharing a glimpse from the moments with Bill Gates, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development wrote in a cheeky Instagram post in roughly translated Hindi, “The ‘What are you doing daughter-in-law’ look 🧐#throwback to tadake ka tadka with @thisisbillgates.”
The philanthropist had a frown and a bemused expression on his face as Irani poured ‘tadka (tempering)’ into the vessel containing the dish. Irani is seen carefully pouring ‘tadka’ as Gates watches her.
Netizens were also amused by the Union Minister’s post. A user commented, “That is Indian women. ..amazing.” Another user wrote, “Lol.”
In the viral video, Gates was seen adding spices in the hot oil and later Irani poured it into the ‘Shree Ann Khichdi’. Gates stirred the mixture and took a small bowl of it. He nodded in delight as he tasted spoonfuls of the khichdi while Irani smiled gleefully.
Grabbing attention online, Gates rode an electric three-wheeler during his visit. Gates shared the clip on social media and appreciated the vehicle’s zero emission, silent ride except for the horn.
During his recent Delhi visit, Gates delivered the fifth Ramnath Goenka Lecture and talked about health systems, energy, climate change and creating an equal world through innovation.
