With new Rs 2,000 notes, ‘Bewafa Sonam’ resurfaces as the subject of hilarious memes online

Earlier this year, an old Rs 10 note had taken social media by storm when someone wrote the words 'Sonam Gupta bewafa hai'. The soon forgotten Sonam has resurfaced, now on a brand new Rs 2,000 note.

If you are tired from standing in long queues in front of ATMs and banks to get some paper money, then you deserve a break. While at it, you should also know about Sonam. An old Rs 10 note surfaced on the Internet earlier this year. This was when there were no demonetisation procedures, and black money hoarders – and even those who simply forgot to stack up on Rs 100 bills – actually knew what a good night’s sleep was like. It seems a spurned lover decided to give it back to the woman who broke his heart, solemnly declaring that “Sonam Gupta bewafa hai” (Sonam Gupta is unfaithful) on a Rs 10 note.

Though it is illegal to write on Indian currency, this man probably must have issued this in public interest to safeguard all men from the vile ways of the said Sonam. In no time, Internet made sure that Sonam comes to represent all the women who have been unfaithful. Of course, just like almost everything on the Internet that come with a validity period, Sonam’s betrayal was soon forgotten. But now with the sudden frenzy around money, and the new kid on the block — the Rs 2,000 currency note — someone reminded the world that Sonam has committed a serious mistake.

Someone wrote the message once again, this time on a brand new and much coveted Rs 2,000 note! But now, there was no stopping the Internet. Netizens made sure, everyone everywhere (even in other parts of the world) knew just how deceitful Sonam has been!

That is how it all started.

And now,

With that, it was memes galore!

Her fame transcended borders and reached overseas.

But from what it looks like, Sonam doesn’t seem to care about all the rumours being spread about her, and is chilling in New Zealand. And she had a message to send from there.

But if she thought that just a statement after all these accusations would have calmed down the public, then she was wrong! An entire Facebook page calling her out was made in no time!

From what it looks like, it seems that even if the person Sonam betrayed forgives her, the Internet will not!
