Rahul Gandhi’s love for dogs is no secret. After voicing his opinion against a now-modified Supreme Court order on stray dogs, the Congress leader is now winning hearts by gifting an indie puppy to the granddaughter of Mallikarjun Kharge, his party’s president, on her birthday.
In a viral video shared by the official handle of the Congress on Instagram, Rahul Gandhi can be seen surprising Kharge’s granddaughter with a birthday gift, an indie puppy. The video shows Gandhi arriving with a large gift-wrapped box, which he further unwraps to reveal a smaller crate inside containing the puppy. As he introduces the pup to Kharge’s family, the room lights up with joy and excitement. The puppy is later seen playing with the children, while Gandhi cradles it.
The Congress, posting the moment on Instagram, captioned it, “Great love comes in small packages. A birthday gift to remember for Kharge Ji’s granddaughter.”

The video quickly gained traction, amassing nearly two million views. Several Instagram users hailed Gandhi for adopting an Indian breed puppy. “I am wondering how is he managing time for all these?? Absolutely caring personality!” a user wrote. “His small beautiful gestures are very cute,” another user commented.
“Man of great simplicity & humbleness. Future of India,” a third user reacted.
The video comes after the Supreme Court modified its earlier directive regarding the mass removal of stray dogs from the Delhi-NCR area. The original order had been in response to rising dog bite cases but was recently revisited amid growing concerns over animal rights.
In 2023, Rahul Gandhi introduced a new family member, a Jack Russel, on the occasion of World Animal Day. In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Gandhi talked about his Goa trip, where he met a Goan family from whom he got Noorie, the dog.
