Fourteen people were killed and 74 injured after a giant hoarding collapsed in Ghatkopar’s Pant Nagar locality as wind gusts and rain hit the city. The hoarding measured 120 x 120 feet as against the permitted size of 40 x 40 feet.
The viral CCTV footage shows the giant hoarding tearing down the roofs of multiple cars before touching the ground. According to reports, the hoarding was erected by Ego Media on a plot that has been leased to the Police Welfare Corporation by the Maharashtra government’s Police Housing Division.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the site and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the kin of the deceased. The National Disaster Response Force is conducting rescue operations at the collapse site.
