‘And you want to build a Disneyland?’: Jet Airways’ former CEO reacts to filthy, garbage-filled Gurugram streets

Former Jet Airways CEO Sanjiv Kapoor is grabbing attention after he reacted to photos showing garbage-strewn roads in Gurugram’s Sector 44. Slamming the civic authorities, Kapoor criticised the idea of building a Disneyland attraction in Haryana, “ludicrous.”

The viral photos he posted showed cows standing and sitting amid piles of garbage along the roadside, with a Google Maps screenshot marking the exact location of the scene. “Months later, worse than ever before. Shame on you, @MunCorpGurugram @DC_Gurugram @cmohry — no respect for the land, for tax-paying citizens, and not even for the cows! And you want to build a Disneyland in Haryana? Ludicrous!” Kapoor wrote on X.

He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging intervention through the Swachh Bharat Mission. “@narendramodi ji, please do something! #SwachhBharat,” he added.

In a follow-up post, Kapoor criticised how local authorities handle citizen complaints. He questioned whether officials were “driving around blindfolded,” since the problems are persistent. “And the babus have the gall to say we are building an app, send us photos and locations of the garbage through that. Do they drive around blindfolded or what? Though I am sure the launch of the app will be tom-tommed and then they will consider the job done!” he wrote.

The post quickly gained traction, prompting reactions from social media users. “Cows on roads has become international shame. Foreigners come and click photos as they have never seen cows sitting or walking on roads in any of the developed nation. But it can only happen in India as we are 4th largest ecomony in the world,” a user wrote.

“Appreciate the post Sir. Sadly, nothing will happen. This is how the entire city looks. All those green belts have been turned into dump yards! Moved to Gurgaon a few months back and am already regretting it,” another user commented.
